TEHRAN, April 6 (MNA) -- A statue of the Persian poet Shahriar will be completed over the next two weeks in Shahriar’s hometown of Tabriz.

The 5.6 meter high statue is the largest statue of Shahriar that has ever been created, the statue’s sculptor and designer Reza Fallahian told the Persian service of MNA.

The statue will be unveiled on September 18, Shahriar’s birthday, in one of Tabriz’s squares during a ceremony which will be attended by Iranian cultural figures.

The statue, which is in the painting stage now, has cost about 10,000 dollars and 2,000 more dollars will be spent it for completion, he added.

The 1000 kilograms statue is made of fiberglass in a realistic style, Fallahian added.

Born in 1983, Fallahian has created several statues of Azari luminaries, including Allameh Jafari, Allameh Tabatabaii, Shams Tabrizi, Sattar Khan and Baqer Khan.

Hossein Behjat Tabrizi (1906-1988) whose pen name was Shahriar was undoubtedly a gifted and talented contemporary poet. He is the composer of the first and most famous Azari language poetry collection, entitled “Heydar Baba,” ever written by an Iranian.
